Atomic-age monster movies turn radiation into the era’s most flexible screenwriter. Scientists are often both detectives and suspects, trying to repair consequences created by their own institutions. The cycle prospered because atomic anxiety was abstract, technical and politically difficult to picture. Monsters made fallout visible. Television syndication later softened these warnings into Saturday entertainment, but the original unease survives beneath the creature-feature familiarity.
